Alasdair Lane

Sports Performance and Strength & Conditioning Coach

Alasdair began his health and fitness career as a Physical Training Instructor (PTI) in the Army. After leaving the Army he gained his experience by working for two of the leading health clubs and personal training centres in London. Whilst working for Matt Roberts Personal Training he was privileged to work with some of the world's biggest celebrities from the fashion world such as John Galliano and Tom Ford. However, the majority of his clients now are senior executives working for large corporations or those seeking to get an edge on their sports performance. He has written for a number of papers and magazines such as The Sunday Times, Zest Magazine and he regularly contributes to GQ Magazine.

He now splits his time between individual fitness coaching, academic work and acting as the sports science support to Brentford FC.

His main focus is the training of movements, not individual muscles and there by taking into consideration each individual's differences yet still achieving their goals and aims.

To add a different dimension to his personal training he completed his Mountain Leader (Summer) award and Single Pitch (Climbing) award and now regularly takes his clients into the British mountains to climb and walk so they can test their fitness and see how what they do in the gym can be applicable to normal life. Being a keen endurance athlete, he has completed the Marathon des Sables (MDS), the UK Half Ironman (70.3) and has done over 10 marathons and numerous Triathlon races. The next big goal for him is the Nice Ironman in June 2009.

He holds an MBA, has completed the National Strength & Conditioning Association's Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist qualification (CSCS), is a BTF Level 2 Qualified Triathlon Coach and is also registered as an Advanced Instructor REPS Level 3.

He is currently studying for an MSc Biomechanics at Roehampton University with his research paper focusing using weight training and plyometrics to reduce the impact peak for heavy loading runners.

Concurrently he is working towards the UK Strength & Conditioning Association accreditation and his BTF Level 3 Triathlon Performance Coach Award.

Martin Watkins - Personal Trainer and Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Martin has just completed an MSc in Biomechanics, specialising in golf where he carried out a successful 8 week intervention improving the X-factor. If you play golf, you'll know the importance of that! This was achieved through a dynamic movement screening followed by specific functional movement conditioning. If you're inflexible he'll improve it; if your weak he'll make you strong; if you're slow he'll make you fast; if you're fast he'll make you faster!

Martin's background highlights a life long passion for all things relative to strength and conditioning. However, this is achieved through a philosophy which is focused on movements, not muscles, objectives not fashions or fads, strong postural basics, not falsely stabilised machines. He qualified as a British Amateur Weightlifting Association (B.A.W.L.A) trainer in 1992 and has been personal training in London for the past 5 years. He is currently completing the UKCSA qualification. He is also experienced with professional athletes having worked with premiership football and rugby clubs including Westham, Reading and London Irish.

Martin has competed previously in amateur bodybuilding, but now puts his energy in competitive rowing down in Putney. He likes to practice what he preaches, and his goal is to train from the inside out, ultimately leading to lifestyle changes educating the client to ensure their results are for life.
